History of MCC Mat. Hr. Sec. School

Located on a sprawling 16 acres campus in the heart of Chennai is the Madras Christian College Matriculation Higher Secondary School which enjoys the symphony of ambition, diversity and progress in the city where the sky touches the sea. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” True to the words of Nelson Mandela, our esteemed institution stands tall and lofty, serving the society for the past 25 glorious years and educating young minds to defeat ignorance and ignite knowledge. The corner stone of Madras Christian College Matriculation Higher Secondary School was laid in the year 1998 for the Glory of the Lord Almighty. This great school, the brain child of Dr. A. Jefferson Christopher (Former Headmaster and Correspondent of MCC Hr. Sec. School) was started as a feeder school to MCC Hr. Sec. School. In 2004 with a divine vision, the school ameliorated into Matriculation Higher Secondary School. Throughout these years with excellent infrastructure and playground, the school has grown to great heights nearly with a strength of about 1800 students and 100 staff members. .

The school takes pride in its rich legacy that it has witnessed over the years. From these portals, have emerged great men and women who are now well-placed in various parts of the world. In 2006 the baton of leadership was passed on to Mrs. Revathy Bonns who further led the school towards excellence with her innovative working methods. This happy and vibrant school opened its gates to welcome girls in its campus in 2010 and the co-education system was introduced.

After her tenure, the mantle of leadership and responsibility fell upon the able shoulders of the current Principal and Correspondent, Mrs. Grace Sheela Victor in the year 2019. As an educator and a remarkable administrator, she encourages the students to form new ideas and take daring steps. She is the motivating force behind many innovative programmes in the school. Being an ardent environmentalist, she organizes nature camps for the students, helping them sensitize the need to conserve the planet. It is under her aegis that the school proudly celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2022-2023. With a consistent foundation to improve in every sphere, the school steps into each new year with the hope of widening the vista of knowledge of the students.

Since its inception, the school has produced brilliant Men of Grit across the wide spectrum of society over its history, for they were trained to head the action and never to beat a retreat, no matter what the field be. No doubt this school is reaping the rewards sown by the dedicated Scottish missionaries who built this institution from the ground up. Rev. John Anderson sent by the Church of Scotland was a pioneer of the early English education in South India. Following his lead, Rev. Dr. William Miller under whom the school was christened Madras Christian College, steered the school forward. The torch of light was then passed on to Rev. William Meston, Mr. Kuruvilla Jacob, Mr. D.S. Mathias, Mr. Savarirayan, Dr. Clement Felix and Dr. Jefferson Christopher who have played a vital role in enriching the roots of the organization by shaping the ethos and curriculum of the school. As part of this prestigious heritage, Madras Christian College Matriculation Higher Secondary School stands as a beacon of light and knowledge to every student who enters its portals. .

From the Principal's Desk

I consider myself fortunate and privileged for being chosen to lead this prestigious institution and I thank the Lord Almighty for His divine calling to this noble stewardship. Children are precious gifts from God and it is our responsibility to treasure and nurture them for a brighter tomorrow. In a rapidly changing world, our duty is to enrich the present generation to ensure a promising future and this lofty cause can be accomplished only through education. An educational institution is not just a repository of knowledge, but a “Potter's House” where, with the skillful moulding of the teachers, children take many a beautiful shape and emerge as worthy citizens of the country. In the words of John Dewey "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” The goal of education is to develop the all-round personality of the students, preparing them to face the challenges of life and that is exactly what we do at MCC Matric. Hr. Sec. School. As educators, we take up the responsibility of not merely transmitting knowledge but also facilitating the discovery of new vistas of learning.

The three important principles of Madras Christian College are Academic Excellence, Social Relevance and Spiritual Vitality which are deeply embedded in all aspects of the school. While enabling the students to excel in academics, we provide wide opportunities for students to achieve in all other co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. A proper education sets students to grow personally, professionally and socially. Students at MCC Matriculation School are involved in many social activities which help them relate to the world outside and realise their responsibility to create a better society to live in. Enrichment programmes are organised periodically to foster spiritual strength in the students and to enable them to withstand life’s battles. Educational and Cultural exchange programmes are the salient features of MCC Matriculation School which promote international learning and global citizenship, thus connecting students with people on the other side of the globe. Teachers at Madras Christian College Matric. Hr. Sec. School equip themselves in Moulding Competent Champions of life, teaching them the ABC of life – Aspire, Believe and Conquer. “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” are the words rightly stated by Benjamin Franklin. In accordance with this wise saying, we invest knowledge and skills in the lives of the precious pillars of our country which will definitely pay good dividends tomorrow, thereby fulfilling the vision of the Founders of this great institution.

“Thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession and
through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere”. II Corinthians 2 : 14
